Trapped

Floating on the clouds of bleakness,
observing the nuances
of days and years akin;
I watched you through
battling with your demure self.

Crumbled you seemed
by the possibilities of the infinite
and by the irrelevancies of the finite.
I felt the afflictions of your soul
and lived your longings through.

So, once I took you diving,
deep in the blues
where we found peace
reaching the untouched corals
and swimming through the clues
to pacify your flickering quarrels.
Plunging in these deep, unruly waters
I navigated you through the vast, undiscovered infinity.

But little’d I know
that you’d swim back
to the brim, to the surface
just to sell out the infinite possibilities
for the mere chase of credibility.

Effortless, is it?
To come bare in the gaze of the ruthless
just to seek affirmations
and unsolicited fancies?
Easy, is it?
to put one’s fidelity
at the feet of despicables
and forget the possibilities
the infinity once held out to us?

Unanswered and defeated today
when I stand in front of the mirror
bare, I see you,
smiling through the cracks
the daggers have instilled in you.

And then you see me too,
trapped,
inside the crystal clear glass
mirroring the mirror,
longing for your touch
and reaching out to you
like an innocent birdie
locked in a cage
and like soulful words
penned on the print of a page
I remain but
a mere reflection
in the mirror of your age.
